They hastened there on foot
The apostles gathered once again together with Jesus. It seems that we have heard a lot of this lately, the apostles gathering with Jesus. This was the essence of their lives. They were chosen and called and hastened there not only on foot but in their hearts. I believe that the apostles had a sense of learning from Jesus as they eagerly joined him where ever he went. They did go a lot of places and where ever they went the people followed. Some in curiosity, some in following the crowd, and others because they knew. They knew that he was the Son of God. In any event handling a crowd of people all day and every day calls for rest. So Jesus said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” That is what we do when we need rest, isn’t it? But to whom do we go when we seek this rest? It is Jesus who invites us to this rest. Like sheep without a shepherd he does not leave us. So let us hasten there in our hearts first, then by foot if necessary. BAR
