Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I want to give you an update on where we are at with our Pave the Way of the Lord parking lot project. As you may remember, last year we decided to accept Pyramid Paving’s bid. The diocese gave us permission to spend the funds we have already raised for the parking lot but not other parish funds. To date, including the $30,000 from our Knights of Columbus Council (thank you Knights!) we have $100,000. I am so grateful to all of you who have given generously to this campaign.
To do the entire project will cost $160,000. After much deliberation, discussion and looking at several options (Pyramid Paving has the proposal we are going with as Proposal 7!), our finance council and parish council supported doing the parking lot in two stages. Our plan is to have Pyramid do the first layer of the entire parking lot (1.75inches) this year. In order to insure the full life of the parking lot we must come back within two years and lay a second layer of another 1.25 inches. This means we need to raise an additional $60,000 for our parking lot. Knowing the generosity and commitment of the people of our parish our councils believe that we can have the additional $60,000 raised by 2026 to complete this important project. Let’s prove them right.
I am very excited and grateful to let you know that Pyramid Paving will be starting work on the parking lot on June 17! They believe the work will take a couple of weeks to complete (weather permitting). We will still be able to utilize the parking lot for our weekend Masses. Also, Thursday Bingo will still be able to happen during this time. We will still have our daily Masses too, though there may be a day or two where we will have to park in the neighborhood and walk over. After they have completed the project, Tom Bigelow’s company will stripe it out and it will be ready for us to use.
Once again, I am deeply grateful for all who have supported this work. If you haven’t yet given to this project we need your support! This is your parish and we are all needed to do the work of Jesus and our Church. I would encourage you to give now. The sooner we raise the additional funds, the sooner we can add the second layer and ensure we have a beautiful and safe parking lot for many decades to come. And if you have already given and are able to give some more, this would be a great blessing to us all! I will share with you that one of my gifts to Good Shepherd as I prepare for my new parish in July is another donation for our parking lot.
Please join me in praying for a smooth installation of the first phase of our parking lot and a successful raising of the additional money we need to complete our parking lot.
May God bless our parish abundantly this summer.
