Remain in my love.
Again from the gospel of John we hear that word, remain. Last week it was “Remain in me, as I remain in you.” This week it is, “Remain in my love.” This word remain implies that there was a time in which we were not in him. Or that there is coming a time in which we will leave him. Remain is an action that never ceases. Much like that of his love for us. It is an action that if we ignore, will result in us moving away from that by whom we are loved. The action that is required to remain in his love is to keep his commandments. Just as Jesus kept his Father’s commandments to remain in his Father’s love, we need to keep his commandments to remain in his love. This is his commandment; love one another as I love you. He told us this so that his joy may be in us and that our joy may be complete. For there is nothing else by which we can remain than to love one another as he commanded. And no one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. BAR
